Crypto.com has named Justin Wales as its new chief legal officer to replace Nick Lundgren, who has resigned after more than five years in the role.

Wales was previously head of legal for the Americas at the Singapore-based exchange, a job he held since January 2022.

Prior to joining Crypto.com he spent one year as a partner at law firm K&L Gates in Los Angeles.

Lundgren has also resigned from his position as CEO of the company’s sports prediction market, OG.com.

The legal officer spearheaded the launch of Crypto.com’s own prediction market platform in February.

From May 2019 to October 2020, Lundgren was a crypto and fintech attorney at law firm Perkins Coie, and during the two prior years he was a payments attorney for Amazon.

Wales said: “More than four years ago I joined Crypto.com. In that time I have seen firsthand what a talented group of A+ players can do when working toward a common goal.

“I have enough data points to have no doubt that the Crypto.com legal team is the absolute best in the business.

“From crypto to prediction markets to banking to AI, it has been a real pleasure to be able to help implement an innovation-first strategy.

“My goal in this role is to continue operating at that standard.”

Lundgren added: “Since joining in 2020, it has been an incredible privilege to help build Crypto.com’s industry-leading regulatory resume from ground zero – securing the most comprehensive sets of licences and registrations globally, including numerous firsts.

“I’m especially proud that Crypto.com was the only major crypto platform to navigate the challenging regulatory environment without facing Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement action or settlement.

“Innovation has always been core to Crypto.com, and I’m grateful to have created and launched the world’s first Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated sports prediction market and fastest growing financial service.”

In recent months Crypto.com has penned numerous prediction markets deals with companies as varied as Underdog, High Roller, Trump Media and Technology and Fanatics.

Chloe Yung will remain as the group’s general counsel.
