Abios co-founder and MD to step down

Abios managing director and co-founder Anton Janér has stepped down from the Kambi-owned esports betting supplier.

Janér co-founded the Swedish business alongside Oskar Bonnervier Fröberg in 2013, with Janér serving as chief technology officer and Fröberg as CEO.

The business was sold to Kambi in 2021 in a deal worth £12.5m. Fröberg and Janér retained their positions with Abios when the transaction completed.

In May 2024, Fröberg stepped down from his position, with Janér stepping up to become managing director of the division.

Abios has become a key part of Kambi’s modular approach, alongside the Stockholm-listed supplier’s AI-powered trading arm Tzeract and Odds Feed+ division.

Two years ago, Kambi CEO Werner Becher hailed modular services a key supplier battleground, as operators shun full turnkey solutions in favour of in-house operations.

Kambi has continued to secure full supply deals, notably with state- and province-owned entities, as well as LiveScore Group.

However, the modular approach, which also includes frontend developer Shape Games, has remained beneficial for revenue diversification.

Abios counts FDJ United, Bingoal, LeoVegas Group, Paf, Colombia’s BetPlay, Brazilian operator Rei do Pitaco and ATG as partners.

Last year, Kambi made a final €450,000 payment in relation to earnouts from the original 2021 acquisition. The firm said no more earnouts are expected to be paid.

Speaking on his decision to step down, Janér said: “After more than 13 years I am now closing the Abios chapter.

“Taking Abios from a bootstrapped startup to a fast growing, healthy SaaS company that is now almost 100 people-strong across the globe has been nothing short of incredible.

“Nothing is straightforward, but the people I have met and had the pleasure of working with has always made it incredibly enjoyable – too many to mention, but you know who you are.

“To the team now driving the esports efforts at Kambi: enjoy the ride and best of luck.”

Kambi is due to report its Q1 2026 earnings on 29 April. The firm’s share price is up 4.8% since January to SEK138 (£11.09).
