Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, has banned more than 40,000 accounts since early June as part of a crackdown on illegal sports betting activity linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The platform said it had carried out more than 12 enforcement actions against organised groups promoting illegal betting services, resulting in the removal of over 65,000 gambling-related posts and more than 450,000 comments.
Xiaohongshu said it has also shared 12 intelligence leads with public security authorities and assisted investigations in several regions, contributing to action against five promotion networks.
The company reiterated that online gambling and unauthorised prediction betting violate both platform rules and Chinese regulations. Measures include content removal, restrictions on messaging functions and permanent account bans.
Users have been urged to report suspected violations as authorities and technology platforms increase efforts to curb illegal gambling activity during the World Cup.
