A groundbreaking ceremony for the new East Texas resort was scheduled for 18 June at the development site on US Highway 59, according to an event notice issued on behalf of the Tribe and Naskila Casino.
The permanent development is expected to include a casino floor, hotel accommodation, restaurants and entertainment facilities. It will be built opposite the site of an interim casino intended to operate while construction progresses.
The temporary venue will open around the clock with 300 Class II electronic bingo machines, a players’ club, a 24-hour deli and approximately 300 parking spaces. Tribal officials expect it to create 110 jobs and support increased tourism in Polk County.
“This temporary facility will provide a positive economic impact for Polk County, surrounding communities and for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe,” Tribal Council chairman Ricky Sylestine said when the plans were announced.
The Tribe currently operates Naskila Casino in Livingston, which offers Class II gaming under federal law. The resort project represents a significant expansion of its gaming and hospitality interests and positions Naskila to attract customers from the wider Houston market.
A completion date and detailed investment figure for the permanent resort have not yet been announced. The Tribe had not published a post-ceremony confirmation at the time of writing.
