After the expansion of the slot market in the first half of 2026, we are now seeing a strong trend towards consolidation of high-value keywords. This has led to another vastly changed top 10, with Coral, Buzz Bingo, Paddy Power, Free Slots, Sky Vegas, NetBet and Betfair all dropping off of the leaderboard.

These have been replaced by Smooth Spins, Foxy Bingo, BOYLE Sports, Parimatch, Betfred, The Sun Vegas and Strike Wild. BetVictor and 32Red have both dropped several places, while William Hill remains solidly in second spot, which is something of an impressive feat given the aforementioned churn. Interestingly, none of the top 10 have risen in the rankings, with completely new leaders largely gaining visibility from a focus on tactical keywords.

Strongest competitors race for high-value search terms

The above changes in the leaderboard have been largely driven by a race to capture clicks for core commercial head terms such as ‘slots UK’ and ‘play slots online’. Capturing the strongest rankings for these keywords has been incredibly beneficial for BOYLE Sports, which has shot into fourth place in the second half of 2026 from outside the top 10 altogether in the first half of the year.

Despite having only nine ranking keywords, they have gained over 14,000 visibility points due to ranking in the top three for several of them. Similarly, affiliate Strike Wild has made impressive gains by ranking second for ‘free spins’, another high-value term with a search volume of 49,500. In contrast, Paddy Power has slipped down the rankings in many of these core keywords, which has cost the Flutter-owned operator its place in the top 10.

A tactic favoured by Smooth Spins and Foxy Bingo, which have risen to first and third, respectively, from outside the leaderboard, is to retain a broad keyword footprint by absorbing those discarded by other competitors. By retaining an average third to seventh place in enough of these keywords, these two brands manage to claim 20,100 and 16,500 clicks, respectively, with Foxy Bingo ranking best among generic slot terms and Smooth Spins succeeding among UK-specific ones.

William Hill appears to be combining these strategies: while the brand has pruned 133 ranking keywords, with a combined loss in visibility of almost 11,000, it nevertheless ranks first in many of the core commercial terms such as ‘slots’ and ‘slots online’, with a combined search volume of 64,100.

Keyword trends shift toward core clusters

The biggest difference in keyword trends in the slots sector in this half of the year is a move toward concentration, chiefly around core commercial clusters as well as free intent terms such as ‘free spins’ and ‘free play’. The search demand for these clusters has led to a strong concentration in the market, which has caused churn in the top 10 as newer competitors such as Strike Wild and Smooth Spins focus exclusively on top rankings for the most valuable core keywords.

Critical to this has been the aforementioned ‘online slots’ cluster largely dominated by William Hill, with average search volumes for these keywords ranging from 3,600 to 12,100. These keywords have pushed out most of the long-tailed and informational-ranking keywords from the first half of the year, as well as making a top five rank more crucial for success. A top 10 site in H1 2026 would have averaged seventh to 18th place across a range of keywords between 155 and 217; in this half, competitors in the same positions run between first and fifth place for only six to 66 keywords.

Overall market visibility becomes concentrated

So, what does this sharp concentration mean for the market at large? Firstly, it is crucial to point out that a concentration in visibility does not necessarily equate to market shrinkage; rather, this shows consolidation. This is due to a change in the visibility drivers between the first and second halves of the year. In H1, keyword footprints were an enormous driver of visibility, allowing competitors to each cover parts of a broader spectrum.

In contrast, in H2, the driver has shifted from the keywords themselves to who ranks highest within a smaller set. This concentration has led overall to a smaller group of operators owning a significantly larger piece of the demand than previously, having absorbed a disproportionate number of available clicks left by the likes of Paddy Power.

Here, it is also crucial to note that many of the operators with the largest gains are those moving in from other fields in the igaming sector, such as Foxy Bingo and BOYLE Sports. While these are chiefly bingo and sports betting sites, respectively, they have been able to enter the slots field by using their status as trusted and authoritative domains in their original sectors.

This trust and authority are big factors behind many search engine results positions, or SERPS, and, as such, engines can take a competitor’s authority and send them higher up the results pages even if the search term in question is outside their usual area. This is especially noteworthy when combined with the current keyword concentration trend, as it means an authoritative domain has a greater chance of ranking among the top five.

Overall, here are three key takeaways from what we have seen in the slots market:

  • Sharp keyword concentration has led to churn in the top 10 as brands fight for a top five ranking among a decreasing number of core search terms. The most important are commercial head terms such as ‘online slots’, as well as free play keywords.
  • Efficiency of a brand’s keyword footprint matters more than breadth in the second half of 2026. Brands with fewer than 10 ranking keywords are able to come out in the top three because of judicious capture of high-value clusters.
  • A new angle of competition is opening up as established brands from other igaming sectors use the trust and authority they have built with their associated areas to boost their SERP positionings in the slots sector, allowing them to take vital top five positions from traditional slots operators.
