Safer Gambling Week registered over 60 million impressions on major social media platforms, earning commendation from the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) for its successful impact.

Organized by the BGC, Bacta, and the Bingo Association, the campaign spanned from November 18 to November 24, significantly promoting safer gambling practices.

The BGC reported a 21% increase in Safer Gambling Week impressions on platforms like X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram compared to the previous year. Additionally, the campaign’s website attracted more than 500,000 visits during this timeframe.

While specific data on customer engagement with safer gambling tools is still pending, historical trends suggest that a rise in social media interactions typically leads to heightened usage of these resources.

This year, the campaign received robust backing from cross-party MPs and peers, including gambling minister Baroness Twycross and shadow DCMS secretary Stuart Andrew. Moreover, Andrew Rhodes, CEO of the Gambling Commission, strongly supported the initiative, alongside numerous Premier League teams such as Spurs and Aston Villa.

Grainne Hurst, the CEO of BGC, described the outcomes as “outstanding and record-breaking,” endorsing the industry’s proactive stance on safer gambling. She stated, “The remarkable results reaffirm our dedication to promoting safer gambling tools and highlighting available support for individuals who need it. Increases in social media impressions in past years have led to greater adoption of widely-used tools like time-outs and deposit limits, which exist solely within regulated sectors.”

Hurst emphasized that thanks to Safer Gambling Week, millions are now better educated about enjoying their hobby responsibly, a goal that reflects the industry’s ongoing commitment. “Our focus on safer gambling extends beyond just one week a year—it’s our year-round mission,” she added.
