Rivalry has confirmed 28 staff, including its global marketing director, have been made redundant as part of a company restructuring.

The restructure comes as Rivalry looks to shift its focus towards crypto and high-value customers, with resources and teams being reshaped to achieve its aims.

The operator originally launched with an esports-first remit, but has since expanded into a retro arcade-style online casino and launched its own cryptocurrency this year.

The online casino site has also seen Rivalry announce plans to launch a B2B arm for its games, while the Rivalry Token has been heralded as the company’s most successful reactivation campaign to date.

As per the firm’s Q2 report, Rivalry noted it was delivering a “course correction of our historical strategy” to capture VIP players.

In May, CEO Steven Salz described crypto operators as a “train that can’t be stopped” as he laid out his bullish thoughts on the sector.

With Rivalry pivoting, the business confirmed to EGR that 28 staff had been made redundant.

Those impacted include global marketing director Britt Doll who stepped up to the role in December 2023, having served as Canada marketing director since April 2022.

In a statement provided to EGR, Rivalry CEO Salz said: “Rivalry recently completed a company restructuring affecting 28 of our talented colleagues as we continue to shift our teams, resources and focus around a new strategic path we are heading on.

“We are finding increased leverage, product-market fit and return on investment from our expansion into crypto and emphasis on high-value players.

“Despite the opportunities being created for Rivalry, it’s clear these shifts mean rethinking parts of our strategy and team that can build on the momentum we’re experiencing and become a profitable, category-defining gambling brand.”

The latest round of redundancies comes after Rivalry announced 29 employees had been let go in the summer.

At the time, Salz took to LinkedIn to share a list of some of the affected staff, detailing their names, job roles and contact details to allow prospective employers to get in touch.
