Racecourse Media Group (RMG) chair Conor Grant has announced he is stepping down at the end of his first term due to increased work and travel commitments.

Grant was named chair of the RMG in January 2023, starting as a non-executive director on 1 April that year before beginning his tenure as chair from 1 October 2023, replacing former chair Roger Lewis.

Grant is currently the president of gaming at Fanatics Betting and Gaming. He initially joined as a strategic adviser in July 2024 before securing his current role four months later in November.

EGR spoke to Grant at the start of this year to delve into his plans for the privately owned operator’s online casino strategy

Prior to joining Fanatics, Grant was the CEO of Flutter’s UK and Ireland division between July 2020 and March 2023, leaving to take a career break to spend more time with his family.

He also spent a decade with Flutter’s Sky Betting & Gaming brand in several positions, including head of sportsbook product and COO, as well as three years from August 2007 and July 2010 at BOYLE Sports as head of online operations.

Stepping down at the end of his first term as RMG chair, Grant said he was “confident” the RMG will continue to get stronger.

He remarked: “After careful consideration, I believe the end of my first term is the right moment to conclude my tenure as chair of RMG due to increasing work commitments and travel to the US.

“It has been a genuine privilege to chair the business over the last three years. CEO Nick Mills and his management team are making great progress delivering for our shareholders.

“We have sharpened the strategy, invested in our leadership team and continued to build on strong foundations. I am particularly grateful to all our shareholders for their trust and support throughout my time as chair.

“And finally, I would like to thank an outstanding board of directors, whose support and insight have been instrumental to our progress.

“RMG is in a strong position with real momentum, and I am confident the business will continue to go from strength to strength in its next phase.”

RMG CEO Nick Mills added: “Conor’s leadership has played a pivotal role in strengthening RMG and setting the business up for long‑term success. He leaves with our sincere thanks and best wishes for the future.”

Earlier this week, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) announced up to £100m was staked across the Aintree Festival with illegal operators.

Approximately £40m was bet on The Grand National alone, according to the BGC, which cited increased taxation on operators and affordability checks as factors that will drive even more players towards the black market.

BGC CEO Grainne Hurst said: “The Grand National is one of the biggest moments in the sporting calendar, enjoyed safely by millions.

“But the criminal, harmful black market will also have tried to cash in, targeting punters with illegal betting that offers zero protections.

“Rising costs and increasingly intrusive checks will only make it harder for legitimate operators to compete.

“The priority must be keeping punters in the regulated market, where safeguards are in place, rather than driving them towards dangerous illegal operators.”
