The President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, travelled to Punta del Este to visit the construction site of the hotel being built by the Cipriani group in San Rafael. Invited by the investment partners, the president expressed being “impressed” by the scale of the project and praised the progress.
He also recalled “the rather long process,” which began with the purchase of the land during the previous government and was processed during the current administration, in the middle of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Urban Planning, Soledad Laguarda, who also visited the site, stated that the structure of the hotel, the convention hall, and the casino are already complete, with some floors finished.
She mentioned that the execution timelines are appropriate and that the workers are working in double shifts. She also noted that at the underground level, where there is parking, work is almost finished.
The Director General of Administration and Human Resources, Miguel Abella, said he was “surprised” to see for the first time what is being done and added that the resort will be inaugurated in December of next year. He added that it is one of the most talked about projects during these 10 years of government and recalled that many had doubts, but today “reality shows that the hotel will be reconstructed as it was.” He also highlighted the importance the hotel will have for tourism and the region, as well as the significance of the global company leading the project.
