Neuquén plans tourism and infrastructure boost via casino concessions in Argentina

The Neuquén provincial government is advancing a plan to develop tourism and infrastructure through a casino concessions program, with accompanying hotel and development in targeted areas.

The initiative emphasizes road improvements and a new concession framework designed to encourage private investment, expand hotel capacity, and channel funds into public works, while outlining measures to promote responsible gaming and support local communities.

The plan aims to strengthen the province’s secondary economy through public-private investment, with a focus on tourism and infrastructure as 2027 approaches.

The northern Neuquén region, highlighted by the paving of the Las Ovejas–Varvarco corridor, is being developed as a tourism destination. The corridor serves as a strategic tourism and infrastructure route in northern Neuquén linking the towns of Las Ovejas and Varvarco.

The road-improvement program emphasizes road safety and economic growth, targeting more than 800 kilometres of works over four years, a scale larger than the province’s previous total.

To support this, the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Neuquén Gaming Institute (IJAN), is developing a concessions model to expand hotel capacity.

Under this model, concessions or extensions for gaming facilities will require new hotels or hostels not only at casino sites but also in nearby towns with anticipated higher tourist demand.

According to local press, plans include four-star hotels in the Confluence and Petrolera regions, and high-category inns in northern towns such as Chos Malal and Huinganco, along with investments in southern destinations and the Los Lagos region.

By December 2025, the province had 1,001 licensed establishments, 8,819 rooms, and 26,576 beds, reflecting growing demand.

The concessions framework is designed to generate revenue from gaming licenses, with funds reinvested in public works, education programs, and community welfare. It also emphasizes responsible gaming and measures to mitigate problem gambling across the province.
