Former Kambi head of racing, James King, has been named as global head of trading for Australian supplier Racing and Sports Technology (RAS).
King’s new position will see him entrusted to improve the supplier’s software as a service (SaaS) trading manager platform, as well as overseeing RAS’ fully managed trading services (MTS).
Bosses noted King’s appointment will ensure RAS’ “trading solutions remain at the forefront of the market”.
Headquartered in the Australian capital of Canberra, RAS provides horseracing data from more than 33 countries and oversees more than 1,000 racing events each day.
The firm, which was founded in 1999, also covers greyhound and harness racing.
That data, along with enhanced media content, is supplied to operators, including bet365, Betfair and Stake, alongside several media organisations.
King’s appointment has been heralded as a “pivotal moment for RAS” as the firm looks to expand globally, with his “extensive knowledge” of both the Australian and UK markets highlighted as key benefits.
He arrives after 11 years with Kambi, rising up the ranks having joined as a junior horseracing trader in May 2013 before departing as head of racing, a title he has held since December 2019.
Prior to his spell with Kambi, King’s first significant position within the sector came in the form of a six-month stint as product and data management operator for Coral between December 2012 and May 2013.
He also spent time with Sportsbet and Betfred in the early stages of his igaming career.

King will continue to be based in the UK as RAS’ global head of trading having worked out of London during his time with Kambi.
“Joining such a forward-thinking operation is a fantastic opportunity,” King said.
“I’m eager to collaborate with the UK team, led by Brent [Dolan, UK and Europe managing director], to drive innovation and growth.
“The enthusiasm I’ve encountered during my initial discussions leaves me confident this will be an exciting journey.”
The new RAS head also reflected on his spell with Kambi ahead of his move to the ASX-listed supplier.
He added: “Today marks the end of my 11-year journey at Kambi. The company has changed so much since I started, and so have I.
“In that time, I’ve built a family, lost my hair and gained lasting friendships. Kambi gave me an opportunity all those years ago, and I’ve worked hard to give my best in return. I leave behind many great people and wish them every success in the future.”
RAS CEO Stephen Crispe noted: “We are excited to welcome James to our UK and global team.
“His vast industry experience and contacts will be invaluable as we continue to build out our SaaS trading tools alongside our fully-fledged MTS services.
“James’ appointment underscores our commitment to strive for excellence in the services we provide.”
