### UAE Expels Illegal Gaming Operators and Warns Residents

The United Arab Emirates is taking decisive action against unlawful gaming operators, as announced by its General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA). The agency has issued a stern warning to residents regarding the dangers of engaging with unauthorized gaming entities.

#### Regulator’s Warning on Risks

The GCGRA has highlighted various risks associated with illegal gaming activities. These include the potential for financial fraud, theft of personal data, malware infiltration, phishing schemes, and broader cybersecurity threats. Moreover, participating with these underground entities may result in criminal investigations by authorities.

#### Official Statement from GCGRA CEO

Kevin Mullally, the CEO of the GCGRA, emphasized the organization’s dedication to maintaining a lawful and secure gaming environment in the UAE. “Be alert and informed to guard against the dangers linked to illegal gaming,” he stressed. He encouraged residents to comply with the law to protect their safety and uphold community standards, recommending that gaming be done exclusively with licensed entities.

#### Concerns Over Unlicensed Operators

Mullally pointed out that unlicensed operations lack independent verification for fairness or security of their technology and games. These operators are not obligated to engage in responsible conduct or apply fundamental consumer protections. Furthermore, they escape regulatory oversight concerning advertising and financial practices, which include maintaining reserves for awards and adhering to anti-money laundering regulations.

He strongly advised consumers to steer clear of such operators to evade negative outcomes. Services like advertisers and payment processors assisting these illegal businesses also face potential sanctions and operational restrictions within the UAE.

#### Leadership and Recent Developments

Announced as the GCGRA CEO last year, Mullally—previously affiliated with MGM Resorts—has been instrumental since the regulator’s inception. His leadership has opened avenues for exploring gambling’s commercial prospects, integrating them with the robust tourism sector of the Emirates.

Presently, the UAE’s sole licensed operator is The Game LLC, serving as the national lottery and service provider in the Gulf. Established lottery services like the Big Ticket and Dubai Duty-Free airport lotteries continue under GCGRA regulation, with nearly three decades of operation.

Recently, a commercial gaming license was awarded to Wynn Resorts, which manages an integrated hotel resort in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, further expanding regulated gaming services within the region.
