GAMSTOP has accumulated 500,000 registrations since its formation in 2018 as the self-exclusion service heralded reaching the figure as a landmark moment.

More than 440,000 people are currently self-excluding from gambling via GAMSTOP, with around one in two people choosing the longest possible exclusion timeframe of five years.

Back in April, GAMSTOP recorded 8,686 registrations, the highest number in a single month since the platform’s launch.

Market research firm Ipsos recently surveyed more than 4,650 GAMSTOP users, with the full results of the survey set to be published later this month.

Early Ipsos figures show 78% of those surveyed felt GAMSTOP had delivered the results they were hoping for, with 75% feeling more in control of their gambling choices.

Furthermore, research conducted by the Gambling Commission during the first half of 2024 found the average age of GAMSTOP registrants has decreased, with one in two registrations falling into the 16-35 age range during that period.

There was also a 12% year-on-year increase in the number of 16-24 year olds choosing to exclude themselves from all online gambling sites.

From those surveyed by the Gambling Commission, 2.5% reported suffering from gambling-related harm, with men and those under the age of 35 experiencing higher rates of harm.

The 500,000 registration milestone comes ahead of GAMSTOP’s Self-Exclusion Day on 12 September, designed to raise awareness of the organisation to football fans across the country.

Self-exclusion messaging will be displayed at EFL football grounds on the weekend of 7 to 8 September, and digital assets will be posted on partner clubs’ social media platforms.

GAMSTOP CEO Fiona Palmer said: “We have come a very long way since our launch in April 2018 and GAMSTOP is now widely recognised as an important tool to help vulnerable consumers take a break from their gambling.

“We are proud to have been able to help hundreds of thousands of people to take back control of their lives though self-exclusion and we hope to help many more in the years to come.

“It is right that we regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the service through independent research and we will shortly be announcing the results of a comprehensive listening exercise conducted by Ipsos, that has surveyed thousands of GAMSTOP’s users,” she concluded.
