In our CasinoBeats Rhymes and Life series, we explore the soundtracks that define the gaming industry’s atmosphere.
This time, Oliver Niner, the Head of B2B at PandaScore, shares memories of his first gig, the Oasis album that shaped his musical tastes, and an imaginative outing with Liam Gallagher at an SBC event.
**Can you recall your very first live concert? What was that experience like?**
The first live music show I attended was to see my brother’s band, International Jet Set, perform at the King’s Head in Fulham, London. My friends and I took the tube into the city, enjoying a few more beers than we probably should have before the music started.
The band played well, but what stuck with me was the sheer volume—it left my ears ringing by the end. However, that event sparked a lifelong passion for live music in me, even if International Jet Set didn’t hit the big time.
**What’s the most outstanding live performance you’ve ever witnessed, and what made it unforgettable?**
Without a doubt, Noel Gallagher at Wythenshawe Park tops the list. The performance had all the elements of a legendary show—it felt like a homecoming for Noel in Manchester, despite the rain, the crowd was full of energy, and Gallagher delivered one of the best performances of his career.
It was an electrifying night, packed with emotion and power, and I’m fortunate to have experienced it. Out of the countless gigs I’ve attended over the years, this one remains the most remarkable.
**Is there an artist you think can do no wrong? Why do you hold this opinion?**
That’s a challenging question, but I’d say Queens of the Stone Age. They have stayed true to their sound and identity, never shying away from who they are. While other bands may stray from their roots as they attain success, Queens of the Stone Age continue to craft music for their core fans.
In an industry often driven by trends and chart success, their commitment to authenticity is rare, making them infallible to their followers.
**Which album holds the most significance for you, and why?**
The answer comes easily—Definitely Maybe by Oasis. Released when I was about 14 or 15, I listened to it repeatedly, and it became central to my life. I can still recite the lyrics of every song.
The album not only defined my love for indie rock but also stirs deep nostalgia, bringing me back to my teenage years, a cherished time in my life. Beyond personal connections, Definitely Maybe stands as one of the greatest rock albums ever.
**What track is always on your gym playlist? What do you do while listening to it?**
During my gym sessions, which combine cardio and weightlifting, I listen to music while on the rowing machine—not during weights, in fear of getting too engrossed and accidentally letting go of a dumbbell. My rowing playlist features AC/DC, with tracks like Shoot to Thrill and If You Want Blood, both of which motivate me to push harder.
**Which music or artist helps you unwind from work? Why does this work for you?**
Music, in general, provides a break from work, whether listening to a record, visiting a vinyl store, or attending a concert. My extensive vinyl collection is a passion, and I find peace browsing shops for new additions.
**If you could enjoy a night out with any musician, who would it be and where would you go?**
I’d take Liam Gallagher to an SBC networking event, anticipating a night full of unforgettable entertainment.
