The Boston Red Sox are now promoting Kalshi despite Massachusetts having an order in place to block users in the state from accessing the platform’s sports markets.
Neither the Red Sox nor Kalshi has made an official announcement of a partnership. However, Kalshi branding appeared on the team’s official social media account over the weekend.
Red Sox Promote Kalshi to Fans Via Email
Additionally, the Red Sox sent out an email encouraging subscribers to download Kalshi’s app and “trade the future,” as noted by Sportico’s Dan Bernstein on X.

When contacted for official confirmation of the partnership, neither Kalshi nor the Red Sox responded.
Massachusetts Blocks Kalshi Sports Markets
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell sued Kalshi in September last year, alleging that the platform’s sports markets constitute unlicensed sports betting.
A judge sided with the state in January, ruling that Kalshi may not offer sports-related contracts to persons in Massachusetts, directly or indirectly.
Kalshi appealed the ruling to the Massachusetts Supreme Court, but a judge denied its motion to stay the appeal pending resolution. The company was therefore forced to stop allowing users in Massachusetts to trade on its sports markets, including Red Sox games.
Kalshi’s sports markets are also blocked in Nevada, Michigan, and Washington state. It remains locked in legal battles with over 20 states.
Massachusetts Complains About Kalshi Marketing
The appeals court heard oral arguments in April, but has yet to reach a verdict. In the meantime, Massachusetts amended its lawsuit in June to include complaints against Kalshi’s marketing practices.
It claims that Kalshi specifically targets users under the age of 21 on university campuses. It is unclear whether the email sent to Red Sox subscribers included minors.
The legal age to use prediction markets is 18, compared to the legal gambling age in Massachusetts of 21. Novig has set its minimum age at 21, but Kalshi has shown no signs of intending to follow suit.
After launching its prediction market platform, Novig promptly filed lawsuits against four states, including Massachusetts.
Sports Deals Give Companies Legitimacy
The Rex Sox-Kalshi deal is the latest in a growing list of partnerships between prediction markets and sports organizations. State efforts to ban platforms have made little to no impact on sports teams’ and leagues’ willingness to partner with platforms.
Polymarket has an official partnership with the MLB and also announced a deal with the Yankees earlier this month.
Like Massachusetts, New York is locked in a fierce legal battle with Kalshi, Polymarket, and other operators. As more sports groups promote prediction markets, it could make it more difficult for states to block them, several experts told CasinoBeats recently.
In that respect, we might have expected an official announcement from Kalshi declaring a deal with the Red Sox, further supporting the idea that it is offering a legitimate product.
The casual integration of its branding on the Red Sox’s social media and marketing material may be a strategy aimed at more subtly infiltrating fans’ consciousness. Whether that makes any difference in the eventual judgment on the legality of its sports markets remains to be seen.
