Google Docs do not have an in-built functionality to make a Venn diagram. You will learn easily here how to make a Venn diagram using the below options.

  1. Make a Venn diagram using the drawing tab.
  2. Make a Venn diagram using the Lucidchard add-on.

Option 1: Make a Venn diagram in Google Docs using Diagram

Step 1: In the Google Docs, go to the top menu, Insert > Drawing > New

Step 2: In the drawing window, select shapes icon > Shapes > Oval

Step 3: Make a circle with the help of the cursor by holding right-key of the mouse.

Step 4:

  1. From the tool bar, select Fill color icon > select + icon
  2. Under the transparency tab (second horizontal scroll bar), bring the pointer towards left to reduce the transparency (as shown in the right-side image below), so that when you add another circle, the cross-section area is displayed.

Step 5: Repeat the step 3 and step 4 to make more circles as per your requirement. Or you can just select the first circle, copy & paste it, and then move the circle and repeat the step 4 to change the color.

Step 6: Select the text icon and using right-click of the mouse, you can place the text in your desired location inside or outside the circle and type your text.

Step 7: You can format the text as per your required size, font and color. You can also change the circle border width and border dash as shown in the image below.

Option 2: Make a Venn diagram in Google Docs using Lucidchart add-on

The other easy way to make a Venn diagram in Google Docs is to use the add-on called Lucidchart.

Step 1: Install Lucidchard add-on

  1. From the top menu, go to Extensions > Add-on > Get add-ons
  2. In the search bar, type Lucidchart > Install > Select your Google account > Allow > Done

Step 2: Open Lucidchart add-on

  1. On the bottom-right corner, click on the arrow sign to open right side panel.
  2. Select Lucidchart icon as shown in the below image.

Step 3: Select the Log in button to link your google and Lucidchart account.

Note: If this is your first time with Lucidchart, select Sign up button to create and link your Lucidchart account.

Step 4: On the Lucidchart panel on the right-side, select Create new button, which will take you to a new window of Lucidchart diagrams.

Step 5:

  1. On the left side panel, search for Venn diagrams, and select as many circles as per your requirements.
  2. You can change the color of the circles using the Fill color icon.

Step 6:

  1. To input the text, close the search box and, on the Standard tab, click on the text icon.
  2. Once you’ve input the necessary text, save the diagram by going to File > Save in the top menu or by just Ctrl+s

Step 7: In your Google Docs’ Lucidchart right-side panel, select Browse documents button and select the diagram document you created in the above step 5 and step 6.

Note: You also have the option to create a Venn diagram directly within the Lucidchart app portal. After saving your diagram in the Lucid app portal, you can either browse and select that document in your Google Docs or simply copy and paste it directly into your Google Docs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, creating a Venn diagram in Google Docs is a simple and effective process that allows you to visually represent overlapping concepts or data sets. You can create your own diagram from scratch using diagram tab as discussed in option 1. You can also harness the power of Lucidchart, an integrated application within Google Docs to efficiently design and customize Venn diagrams.
