Inserting a double underline in Google Docs can be a valuable way to highlight text, establish headers, or introduce visual elements into your document’s structure. This tutorial will show you two easy options to double underline in Google Docs, providing you with the skills to elevate your document’s formatting and overall presentation.
- Option 1: Using Equation

Quick Guide
If you are looking for a quick guide, go to top menu in your Google Docs
- “Insert” > “Equation”
- Type underline and press spacebar, and repeat this again.
- Type your text.
Option 1: Double Underline in Google Docs using Equation
- From the top menu, select “Insert” > “Equation” (the cursor will change to a box type).
- Type underline (inside the box cursor) and press spacebar.


Note: Once you press the spacebar in the step 2, you can notice single underline in the cursor prompt.


- Type underline again and press spacebar.
- Type your text above the double underline.


Option 2: Double Underline in Google Docs using Drawing
- From the top menu, select “Insert” > “Drawing” > “New”.
- Select the Line icon, using left-key of your mouse draw a straight line holding the shift-key.
- Copy and paste the line to draw the second line. Click Save and close to close the drawing panel.



Note: You can customize the line using line color, line weight, and line dash icons as per your requirement
- Highlight the double line, select the “Behind text” option.
- Open the line options by clicking on the three-dots, select Size & rotation.
- Uncheck Lock aspect ratio, and adjust the Width and Height as per your requirement.

- Finally drag and place the double line under the text you want double underline.

Note: You can also adjust the width and height of the double underline using the double-arrow cursor. As the height will be usually in millimeters, it is bit tricky to adjust, but width can be adjusted easily.
Conclusion:
In this guide, we have seen two options to make double underline in Google Docs. The easiest and quick option is to use equation tab for the below reasons.
- The double underline is part of the text, you do not need to drag and place the double line if text is moved.
- The text and double underline will be highlighted together during the selection, so their color and size will be the same.
