Youth gambling-related harm charity Ygam has secured a two-year, £300,000 grant from theGarfield Weston Foundation to strengthen its operations and infrastructure.

The charity, which focuses on the prevention of gaming- and gambling-related harms among young people, expects the new injection of funding to further its education, research and awareness-based model.

The Garfield Weston Foundation provides grants to charities operating in a range of sectors in the UK. The foundation has awarded nearly £1.7bn of grants since it was founded in 1958.

Across 2024-25, the foundation gave away almost £130m to 2,967 charities. The body has backed the likes of the Rhondda Netball Foundation and Street Soccer Northern Ireland.

Ygam said it has trained more than 35,000 delegates and reached an estimated 5.2 million children and young people following its establishment in 2014.

Emily Tofield, Ygam CEO, said: We are incredibly grateful to The Garfield Weston Foundation for this significant support.

“This grant is not only an endorsement of our work and a vote of confidence in Ygam’s approach, but also a clear recognition of the importance and relevance of addressing the challenges facing young people and families across the UK.

“This funding will enable us to deepen our impact and ensure that children and young people have the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the risks of the digital world safely.”

Tofield was appointed the organisation’s new CEO in November following the departure of Jane Rigbye.

Last month GambleAware warned the new statutory levy regime for the gambling harm sector risked a “fragmentation” of approach to tackling associated issues.

Ygam had previously recieved funding from GambleAware. This included £2.4m in the year ending 31 March 2025.
