Svenska Spel has recorded net gaming revenue (NGR) of SEK1.9bn (£150m) for the second quarter of 2026 with the state-owned operator hailing the impact of the World Cup.
The figure represented a 6.7% increase year on year (YoY), with the operator noting the period as its best second quarter since the Swedish market reregulated in 2019.
The majority of the revenue total, to the tune of SEK1.3bn, was derived from the firm’s lottery arm, Tur.
Revenue from the vertical increased 6.6% compared to the corresponding period last year, with the company breaking its own single month revenue record in May.
Last month, Svenska Spel’s vice-president of the Tur brand, Anna Romboli, announced her impending departure from the company to take on the role of CEO at Swedish horseracing operator ATG.
A further SEK552m came from Svenska Spel’s sports and casino division, up 10.8% YoY.
This was driven by a “wide range of offerings during the World Cup, together with activities and new customer offers”.
Management noted that the number of playing customers in June increased 36% compared to June 2025, with a 340% increase in newly registered customers during the month to coincide with the start of the World Cup.
Sweden’s participation in the tournament – the nation reached the round of 32 stage – was cited as a contributing factor, alongside Svenska Spel’s long-standing partnership with the Swedish Football Association.
Svenska Spel president and CEO Anna Johnson noted: “Our long-term collaboration with the Swedish Football Association is an important part of that.
“It is a partnership that strengthens our business and at the same time contributes to value for sports throughout Sweden. When we deliver strong financial results, it also gives us better conditions to continue giving back to society and to Swedish sports.”
Revenue from the operator’s land-based division decreased 15.9% YoY to SEK69m as more customers flocked towards online gaming sources.
Overall online revenue for the quarter amounted to SEK1.3bn, up 14% YoY.
Operating profit for the period totalled SEK617m. Factoring in income taxes of SEK137m, net profit for Q2 came to SEK525m, up 23.2% compared to last year.
Johnson added: “We are proud of the results during the first half of the year. At the same time, we are aware that the quarter has been characterised by favourable external factors, not least the World Cup, and that continued sustainable growth will require at least as much focus and execution power going forward.
“Therefore, we continue to focus on ensuring that more customers choose Svenska Spel through an improved customer offering and unique gaming experiences. We want to create gaming joy with care. This means that our gaming responsibility is a natural and integrated part of how we develop our offering.
“We continue to create sustainable growth by improving the customer offering, developing the gaming experience and strengthening our product brands.”
June saw Svenska Spel extend its existing agreement with the Swedish Ski Association until 2032.
Earlier this month, the company also announced the appointment of Katarina Borstedt as its new chief people and culture officer, starting from September 2026.
