Sports betting revenue and handle in Virginia both increased year-on-year in June, providing a boost to tax income in the state.

Player spending on sports betting during the month amounted to $477.8 million, according to the Virginia Lottery. This was 15% ahead of June 2024 but 19.7% behind the $595 million wagered in May this year.

Some $472.8 million of this came from online betting, while retail sportsbooks drew the remaining $5.1 million.

Players received back $417.1 million while $3.7 million worth of undisclosed deductions was taken off the total. This resulted in $57.1 million in adjusted gross revenue, up 41% year-on-year but 15.9% less than May this year.

Online betting generated $57.4 million of total revenue. However, the overall market figure was lower due to a $327,616 loss from retail wagering.

As such, Virginia was left with a monthly hold of 11.95%.
