Vietnam is hosting the Asian Esports Championships (ECA 2025) for the first time, with the event taking place from 19–22 November in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
The Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) said the tournament represents an important step in the country’s development within the regional esports landscape.
Around 100 athletes from seven countries; China, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, are competing in League of Legends and CrossFire, with Stepin Digital Dance included as a showcase discipline. Vietnam’s 16-member national team will participate across all three events.
Alongside the competition, ECA 2025 is also featuring a business networking programme, a partnership signing ceremony, and an Asian Esports symposium. Organisers are also highlighting Vietnam’s cultural and tourism identity as part of efforts to link digital sports with local heritage.
According to officials, hosting ECA 2025 is expected to support Vietnam’s digital entertainment sector, attract investment from regional esports and technology companies, and strengthen the country’s capacity to stage international events.
The tournament, previously hosted in rotation by China and South Korea, has become a platform for regional cooperation and industry development. Bringing ECA 2025 to Vietnam reflects the nation’s ambition to establish itself as an emerging esports hub in Asia.
