It’s been nearly a year since Brazil’s regulated betting market was launched by the government, and competition has only gotten more and more intense.

This has prompted some companies to re-examine leadership structures and organisations in the country, especially amid emerging regulatory and financial challenges.

VBET, an online sportsbook owned and operated by the BetConstruct technology group, is the latest to have done so, naming Fábio Tibéria as its new Vice President of South American operations.

Tibéria is an experienced figure in Brazilian iGaming, and VBET has identified this experience as particularly useful as it looks to further solidify its position in the 12 months old market.

In particular, leveraging VBET’s partnership with the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) will be critical to his new role. As the job title suggests, however, it is not just Brazil but the wider Latin American region on Tibéria’s agenda.

“What attracted me most to this challenge is the deep commitment behind a historic partnership built on years of friendship, trust, and successful business collaboration,” Tibéria told SBC Noticias.

“I feel truly honored to be part of this journey alongside one of the most successful companies in the world. This is a defining moment for the Brazilian market, and VBET is the engine driving this new era.”

Tibéria’s arrival at VBET comes amid the regulatory and financial changes mentioned above. In Brazil specifically, the Chamber of Deputies has moved to approve an increase in gaming tax from 12% to 18%, putting a heavier financial burden on operators.

This may prompt some companies to look elsewhere to other Latin American markets like Columbia, Peru and Argentina, similar to what VBET is doing. Companies will need to ensure leadership is chosen well to navigate the competitive journeys ahead.

Reflecting on VBET’s standing in Brazil and Latin America as a whole, Tibéria said: “The company has deep roots in the country and in several other regulated markets.

“We operate in some of the most important international jurisdictions, backed by extensive experience and proven expertise.

“This gives us enormous growth potential; but in terms of strength and presence, VBET Brazil is already a solid and significant reality.”
