UK Tote Group has announced the appointment of Andrew Weir to its board as a non-executive director.

He joins the industry having amassed over 35 years of auditing, finance, advisory and professional governance experience in various roles.

Weir currently serves as chairman of the Pacific Basin Economic Council, in addition to being an independent non-executive director for the Hong Kong branch of Standard Chartered Bank Limited.

His experience in the Far East extends to a period working as global chairman of asset management at the Hong Kong division of KPMG, where he also held the role of regional senior partner.

Weir sits on the board of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and chairs its audit committee, while also serving as a trustee of The Jockey Club Trust.

In 2017, Weir received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his contribution to trade and investment links between Hong Kong, China and the UK.

On Weir’s appointment, UK Tote Group chairman John Williamson said: “We are pleased to welcome Andrew to the UK Tote Group board.

“His extensive business expertise and deep understanding of the racing industry make him well placed to support our strategy and the execution of our exciting growth plans, both in the UK and internationally. We are delighted to have Andrew join the team.”

Weir added: “As the UK Tote approaches its centenary, it is an honour to join the board and contribute to the company’s future development.

“My business experience and roles in Hong Kong and internationally have shown me the importance of global partnerships and international collaboration in advancing the sport.

“I look forward to working closely with the board, Alex Frost and the wider Tote team to help further the organisation’s ambitions.”

Weir’s appointment marks the latest significant personnel change at the company in recent times.

Earlier this month, UK Tote Group announced COO Dave Hammond had stepped down from his role after three years.

Hammond first joined the pool-betting operator as chief commercial officer in 2023, before moving to the COO role last July.
