The Superintendency of Gambling Casinos (SCJ) reported that the hearing for the presentation of technical and economic bids took place yesterday (19 January), within the framework of the process for granting casino operating permits for the available quota in the commune of Puerto Varas, Los Lagos Region.
This process formally began in April 2025. During the hearing, a total of two bids were presented: Inversiones y Turismo Puerto Varas S.A. (associated with the Dreams group) and Sociedad Quiquilhue S.A. (associated with the Meier Group)
Following the arrival of the participants at the SCJ premises, and in the presence of Public Notary, the registration of attendees was carried out. After the hall doors were closed at 10:30 a.m., the applicant companies submitted their economic bids to Ms. Karla Pinto Timmermann, cabinet lawyer for the Undersecretary of Tourism, and member of the SCJ Resolution Council. Subsequently, the sealed envelopes containing the economic bids were deposited in a safety deposit box.
With the reception of technical and economic bids concluded, the Technical Bid Evaluation stage begins, which will have a maximum duration of 120 days, concluding no later than Friday, July 10, 2026.
The process leading up to the tender has been long and complicated. In October 2025 the SCJ decided to extend the timeline for the bidding process for the operation permit of the Puerto Varas casino by 90 consecutive days.
The operating permit will be valid for 15 years. The projects must be completed within a maximum of two years from the publication of the resolution granting the permit, with the possibility of a single 12-month extension for the casino construction and an 18-month extension for the other facilities.
The minimum amount required to apply for the operating permit is 61,234 Unidades de Fomento (UF), equivalent to CLP 2.434 billion. According to the terms of the process, the applicant company commits to offering jobs to 80% of the employees of the current concessionaire, the Dreams Puerto Varas casino .
