NICC suspends The Star’s casino licence indefinitely, rather than cancelling it

The Star Entertainment Group has been advised by the NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) that the suspension of the licence for The Star Sydney casino will remain in effect at this time.

As a result, the NICC has also advised The Star that the Manager’s appointment for The Star Sydney casino has been extended to 30 September 2026 unless terminated earlier by the NICC. The Star notes that this aligns with the current term of the appointments of the Special Manager to The Star Gold Coast and the External Advisor for The Star Brisbane.

Philip Crawford, Chief Commissioner of the NSW Independent Casino Commission, said: “In determining to suspend indefinitely, rather than cancel The Star’s casino licence, the NICC took into account that in due course The Star may be able to satisfy the NICC, with appropriate remedial action, that it should be permitted to return to gaming in accordance with the provisions of its casino licence.”
