Evolution, Hacksaw Gaming and Pragmatic Play have removed their games from Stake.us’s California sweepstakes platform.
The move comes after both suppliers, alongside Stake, were named in a lawsuit filed by the Los Angeles City Attorney.
The lawsuit was brought forward by LA City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto last week, naming Stake co-founders Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani as defendants, in addition to the pair’s Kick streaming site.
Fellow supplier Hacksaw Gaming was also named in the suit, alongside Evolution subsidiaries NetEnt, Nolimit City, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming.
The three suppliers in question have now removed their games from Stake’s platform, making them unavailable to players in California.
The lawsuit accuses the parties named of running an illegal online gambling enterprise in the Golden State.
All defendants are alleged to have breached the California Unfair Competition Law (UCL), the California Business and Professions Code (BPC) and the False Advertising Law (FAL).
The LA City Attorney is seeking a permanent injunction, restitution and mandatory civil penalties.
Per Californian law, mandatory civil penalties can reach up to $2,500 (£1,855) per violation of the UCL and FAL.
When contacted by EGR, Stake had no further comment to add regarding the lawsuit or the suppliers retracting their games.
A Pragmatic Play spokesperson said: “Pragmatic Play has chosen to discontinue licensing its games to sweepstake operators in US States where restrictions were not already in place, in light of regulatory developments and evolving legislation.
“We remain committed to the highest standards of compliance and will continue to engage transparently with regulators.”
In July, California’s anti-sweepstakes legislation, AB831, passed through the state’s Senate Committee on Public Safety with a unanimous 6-0 vote.
States including Louisiana, New Jersey and Montana have also outlawed the vertical so far in 2025.
Stake was also handed a cease-and-desist order for its sweepstake platform in Arizona back in June.
EGR has reached out to Evolution and Hacksaw Gaming for comment.
