Superbet has said it will honour customer payouts totalling more than €30m (£26.2m) in winnings after a slot game suffered a technical error last weekend.

As per local reports in Romania, the incident related to Playtech’s Fire Blaze Red Wizard game, with player winnings incorrectly calculated, despite the supplier confirming there were no malfunctions with the slot.

However, customers were awarded “erroneous allocation of amounts larger than those that should have been awarded according to the random components of the game”, Superbet said.

Though Superbet have since resolved the issue, the decision was made by the Bucharest-based operator pay out and do “right” by the reported 7,500 customers who had been impacted.

Costing Superbet more than €30m, the firm said in a statement that rectifying the mistake in this manner was a “core pillar of our exponential growth”.

It read: “A certain thing: we always do what is right for our customers, regardless of the circumstances.

“By choosing to honour these payments, we demonstrate our commitment to a culture and brand built on customer trust, while also proving our ability to manage unforeseen situations.”

Additionally, Playtech released a statement of its own in which it stated the title in question, among others, were functioning normally.

It read: “We confirm that there are no malfunctions or gameplay issues with this or any other Playtech slot.

“Playtech games are operating as normal, and any reported concerns are unrelated to Playtech game functionality.”

Earlier this year, Superbet secured €1.3bn as part of a refinancing deal with investment management firm Blackstone as part of plans to expand globally.
