Stake’s managing director for Denmark, Peter Eugen Clausen, has announced his departure from the company.
Clausen took on the managing director role following Stake’s acquisition of licensed operator VinderCasino, where he’d served as CEO, in January 2025.
He officially transitioned to MD of Stake’s Denmark operations in August 2025, though he is stepping down after 14 months in the job.
During his tenure, Clausen oversaw Stake’s launch in the regulated Danish market in February, after the operator secured a five-year licence from the Danish Gambling Authority for its Stake.dk platform.
The move formed part of the company’s push to expand into regulated markets, which has included expansion into Italy, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Argentina.
Last week, Stake was named as one of 11 firms eligible to apply for an online casino licence in New Zealand ahead of the country’s regulated launch next year.
Prior to joining Stake, Clausen founded fantasy football app SuperFantasy, serving as chairman of the board between 2024 and 2025.
Between 2006 and 2017, he also founded several gaming companies which were acquired later by William Hill parent company evoke, including Solid Entertainment, Dansk Underholdning Limited and PetersCasino.com.
Taking to LinkedIn to announce his exit, Clausen wrote: “After investing so much energy, passion and commitment into building VinderCasino, selling the company to Stake, securing the necessary regulatory approvals and subsequently leading the launch of a new platform in Denmark, my time as managing director of Stake Denmark has now come to an end.
“In a remarkably short period of time, we managed to establish a strong presence in the Danish market and build a solid foundation for the future. I would even argue it was one of the most successful launches Denmark has ever seen. An achievement I’m particularly proud of.
“Building a business in a highly regulated local market as part of a global organisation headquartered on the other side of the world has been a fascinating experience.
“Navigating cultural differences, different ways of working and the balance between global centralisation and local market knowledge has made the journey both challenging and insightful.”
On his next steps, Clausen added: “I’m proud of what we have accomplished and grateful to the talented colleagues and partners I have had the pleasure of working with along the way. Thank you for the ride.
“Building businesses, launching new ventures and exploring opportunities in new markets have always been what drives me. That passion has not changed. I am excited to see what the next chapter brings.”
In earlier October, a bill was reintroduced in Denmark that includes a whistle-to-whistle ban of gambling advertising around live sport, while operators would be prevented from offering welcome bonuses and free bets.
In a piece penned for EGR, Morten Ronde, managing partner at Nordic Legal and founder of Danish trade body Spillebranchen, argued that it is not clear how the changes would affect gambling-related harm, consumer behaviour and channelisation.
