Spain is set to introduce three new responsible gambling messages that operators will be required to display in apps, on websites and across marketing materials.
The trio of new messages were confirmed by the Spanish government yesterday, 1 October, and will replace the existing ‘Play responsibly’ and ‘Play with responsibility’ taglines.
The new slogans are: ‘Gambling addiction is a risk of playing’, ‘The probability of being a losing gambler is 75%’ and ‘Gamblers’ losses are four times greater than their winnings’.
The requirements for operators to display these messages will be actioned via a resolution to a 2020 piece of legislation which restricted marketing in the Iberian nation.
The government said the new messaging would be akin to that found on tobacco products in Spain, warning of the risks of smoking.
The changes have been informed via a report published by the Ministry of Health last year as part of Spain’s National Drug Plan.
According to that 2024 report, 82% of treatment admissions in Spain during 2022 were for gambling addiction.

The Spanish government is also planning to reintroduce a ban on welcome bonuses and the use of celebrities in advertising after the Supreme Court repealed an original piece of legislation last year.
The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) also passed its National Security Scheme renewal this week.
That renewal could give way to a centralised system to monitor player deposit limits in Spain.
The draftlimits are set at €600 (£522) per day, €1,500 per week and €3,000 per month.
Pablo Bustinduy, Spain’s minister for social rights, consumption and the 2030 agenda, said: “Responsibility should not fall on users but on the authorities, who have the democratic duty to ensure that the environments they access are safe.
“There are unscrupulous economic operators that have no qualms about taking advantage of those in greatest need. [The measures will] prevent existing inequalities from worsening, and even tackle them before they occur.”
