Racecourse Media Group (RMG) has named former Camelot Global and UK CEO Nigel Railton as its new chair, replacing Conor Grant.

Railton will take over on 1 October, with Grant remaining for a one-month handover period until 1 November.

Grant, who serves as Fanatics Betting and Gaming president of gaming announced his intention to step down from the post in April.

The former Flutter UK and Ireland CEO cited increased work and travel commitments as the key reason for vacating the chair role. He originally was drafted in to replace Roger Lewis in October 2023.

Railton also serves as chair at the Post Office, where he has held the position since May 2024.

He was brought in after Henry Staunton was sacked following the fallout of the Horizon IT scandal in which hundreds of sub-postmasters were wrongly prosecuted after malfunctioning software made it appear as if money was missing from their accounts.

Railton’s industry experience includes stints as Camelot Group CFO and strategy director between April 2005 and November 2014, before moving to its sister company Camelot Lottery Solutions as its CEO until November 2017.

He then moved back to Camelot Group to hold the same position until departing in February 2023.

Railton decided to leave the business after it was acquired by Allwyn when the lottery giant laid the groundwork to take on the fourth National Lottery licence in the UK.

Railton inherits a business navigating a tougher commercial environment for British horseracing media.

RMG’s income is tied directly to betting turnover and affordability checks and wider regulatory intervention have squeezed that revenue even as the group posted a record £118.4m in payments to its 37 shareholder racecourses in 2025, up 4.8% on the year.

RMG non-executive director James Sanderson said of the appointment: “Nigel brings an outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision, gained through a career leading some of the UK’s most recognisable and highly regulated organisations.

“His track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses.

“As we look to the future of racing media rights and fan engagement, Nigel’s leadership will be a tremendous asset to the business and the sport.”

Railton added he was looking forward to building “on the company’s success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing”.

On Grant’s departure, RMG CEO Nick Mills commented: “Conor leaves RMG having made a significant and lasting contribution to the business.

“His guidance, support and leadership have been invaluable, and we are extremely grateful for everything he has done for the organisation and our shareholder racecourses.”
