Svenska Spel closed Cosmopol in April

Svenska Spel closed Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm on April 25

Swedish operator Svenska Spel has reported higher net gaming revenues, increased operating profit and improved operating margin for both the fourth quarter and the full year 2025, despite closing the country’s last casino.

Casino Cosmopol in Stockholm was closed on April 25 after the Swedish Parliament’s decision that land-based casino from 2026 may no longer be offered.

“The end of the year is characterised by a continued positive earnings trend, and we exceeded our financial targets for 2025. The proposed dividend to the owner of SEK 1.8bn is an important part of Svenska Spel’s contribution to society and reflects the Group’s long-term value creation,” said Anna Johnson, President and CEO of Svenska Spel.

Despite this, gaming revenue for the year came in at SEK 7,693m, an increase of two per cent compared with the previous year. The Tur and Sports & Casino business areas reported growth, while net gaming revenues for the Vegas business area decreased. Operating profit for 2025 amounted to SEK 2,53m, up 10 per cent.

During the fourth quarter, the Group’s net gaming revenue amounted to SEK 2,131m, an increase of two per cent compared with the same quarter last year. Growth continues to be driven by the Group’s strong product brands in lotteries as well as sports and casino games.

Net gaming revenue in the Tur business area increased by two percent compared with the same quarter last year. The relaunch of Lotto at the end of the previous quarter contributes to the development with clear growth in the fourth quarter. Customer interest in Eurojackpot remains high, but revenues do not quite reach last year’s level due to fewer draws with high jackpots and one draw day less than the same quarter last year. Sales of Triss Christmas calendars and Christmas tickets increased compared to the previous year.

For the Sports & Casino business area, net gaming revenue increased by two per cent compared with the same quarter last year. Growth is mainly driven by online casinos, while pool games were affected by fewer Stryktipsen rounds during the Christmas holidays. Sports betting under the Oddset brand continues to develop positively, mainly as a result of increased customer activity. At the same time, the repayment level was slightly higher, which means that the total income is in line with the previous year.

Net gaming revenue in the Vegas business area decreased by nine per cent compared to the same quarter last year. The business area continues to be affected by structural changes where more and more customers are choosing online games. The development is also dampened by a strained economic situation in the restaurant industry, which has resulted in a reduced number of business partners. This is met with clear measures, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and profitable business partners.

The Group’s online business continues to grow and is growing by seven per cent per cent compared with the corresponding quarter last year. Online accounted for 62 percent (60) of the Group’s revenue during the quarter.
