Puerto Rico’s Gaming Commission announces interconnection period for route gambling machines

The director of the Gaming Commission of the Government of Puerto Rico, Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán, has announced the start of the interconnection period for route gambling machines which operate in businesses.

According to the law, the interconnection period will begin on January 14, 2026 and operators of on-site slot machines will have a 90-day period to acquire or provide evidence of the provider that will offer interconnection for their equipment.

“After a rigorous process of fair competition and in strict compliance with the law, the Board of Commissioners approved the Administrative Order that allows for the interconnection of route gambling machines,” stated Santaella Marchán in a press release.

According to the press release, the interconnection between the machines certified by the Gaming Commission aims to provide the government with accurate data on the income derived from gaming, thereby increasing government revenue. A portion of this will be allocated to police pensions, municipal programs, and the general fund.

According to the Gaming Commission, the evaluation process for the interconnection systems was conducted by authorized independent laboratories, which certified various providers to offer the service, while other companies continue in the certification process. During the transition period, operators of limited-technology machines will be able to use companies with functionality certificates issued by independent laboratories.

Failure to comply will result in administrative penalties, including fines of up to $10,000, as well as other measures.

The currently authorized companies are Alpha Next Software, LLC; Win Systems Solutions, S.L.; W Games, Inc.; Axes; and Caribe Gaming, LLC. Additionally, Caribbean Gaming Technologies, Caribe Gaming, LLC, and the Administración de Centros Electrónicos de Entretenimiento México, S.A. de C.V. are in the certification process.

According to the legislation, the first $12 million collected from licensing and operations will be allocated to the General Fund of the Government. Once that amount is reached, additional revenues will be distributed as follows: 55% to the Puerto Rico Police Retirement Trust, 40% to municipalities, and 5% for the operational expenses of the Gaming Commission.
