PointsBet has reshuffled its board following the completion of MIXI Australia’s takeover of the operator last month.
MIXI Australia, a subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate MIXI, now owns 66.43% of PointsBet, becoming its majority shareholder since outbidding Australian bookmaker betr after a protracted battle for PointsBet.
MIXI acquired PointsBet after shareholders accepted the A$1.25 per share offer, the bid formally closing on 12 September.
With that process now finalised, PointsBet has welcomed Sho Okuyama, Kanji Kobayashi and Taishi Oba as non-executive directors.
Okuyama has spent the last nine years with MIXI and is currently its head of investment and business development.
He was also appointed corporate officer in 2022 and senior corporate officer a year later. He was named a director of MIXI Australia in 2024.
Kobayashi is nearing two decades with MIXI, having joined in 2007. He currently serves as MIXI’s general manager of its legal affairs division.
Similar to Okyama, Kobayashi was also appointed corporate officer in April 2019 and senior corporate officer three years later.
This year he was named a director of MIXI Australia.
Oba is a recent addition to the firm, having arrived just last year. In his role with the Japanese conglomerate, Oba takes charge of deal executions and post-merger integrations as MIXI Australia continues to expand globally. He was also appointed a director of MIXI Australia in July 2025.
As part of the reshuffle, Becky Harris resigned after six years on the board, as did lawyer Tony Symons, who’d served on the board since 2016, and Memories Technologies CEO Kosha Gada, who had been a board director from May 2021.
Finance stalwart Peter McCluskey and former investment management firm Infinity World Development COO William Grounds also stepped down as directors of the company, effective immediately.
Brett Paton remains in his position as chair, while Sam Swanell stays on as managing director on the board.
A company statement read: “PointsBet thanks each of the retiring directors for the dedication, service, professionalism, expertise and experience they have contributed individually and collectively to the company and their strategic guidance to the company, including throughout the MIXI offer process.”
