PENN Entertainment has officially launched its theScore Bet sports betting platform across the US, marking the operator’s third sports betting brand to be deployed in the market.

Last month, the operator announced the early termination of its sports betting partnership with Disney and, as a result, the shuttering of the ESPN Bet platform.

The agreement, worth $150m per year, was originally signed in August 2023 with a view to lasting at least 10 years.

Either party was allowed to initiate a termination of the agreement after three years if certain market targets weren’t met.

Bosses had spoken of ESPN Bet being a podium player in the US. The launch of ESPN Bet came after PENN sold Barstool back to its founder Dave Portnoy for $1 after it ditched the Barstool Sportsbook brand.

PENN acquired theScore in October 2021, before launching theScore Bet in Canada. The brand has become a local hero in Ontario, backed by its legacy media standing.

Similarly to how ESPN media was linked with ESPN Bet, PENN said theScore would be “natively integrated” with the betting brand.

With the rebrand to theScore Bet effective from 1 December 2025, the platform will be available across 21 US jurisdictions moving forward.

One of those states will be Missouri, with the Show-Me State’s legal sports betting market officially launching on Monday (1 December).

Aaron LaBerge, chief technology officer and head of interactive at PENN, said: “We’re pleased to introduce theScore Bet to millions of fans across the US, and welcome new customers in Missouri.

“We look forward to creating the same fan connection with theScore Bet brand in the US as we’ve done in Ontario and delivering players more of what they want – rewards, offers and creative promotions.”

PENN currently operates three retail properties in Missouri, with each location set to open retail sportsbooks in line with the market going live.

Missouri is the only US state to legalise sports betting in 2025, with citizens voting through the legislation during the election in November 2024.

In addition to PENN, several operators have also launched sports betting offerings in the state.

DraftKings and Circa Sports were both awarded untethered licences to operate  in Missouri.

FanDuel has partnered with Major League Soccer outfit St Louis City SC, while BetMGM has launched its offering in association with Century Casinos.

Caesars Entertainment and Fanatics have partnered with Harrah’s Kansas City Hotel & Casino and Boyd Gaming, respectively, while bet365 has teamed up with baseball franchise St Louis Cardinals.

DFS platform Underdog withdrew its licence application days before market launch, instead pivoting towards prediction markets in states which have yet to legalise sports betting.
