Over 240,000 people self-exclude from online gambling in Colombia

To prevent the consequences associated with loss of control in betting, a total of 245,199 Colombian citizens requested self-exclusion from online gaming portals between 2024 and 2025.

According to Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, this high number of self-exclusion registrations is due to the joint work between the regulator and operators to promote legal and responsible gaming.

“We have been implementing the ‘Take control, bet responsibly’ campaign, through which we have informed players about the risks and consequences of betting without control. Our aim is to foster gaming as entertainment, not as an addiction,” Hincapié stated.

The figures show a clear gender pattern: in both 2024 and 2025, 81% of self-exclusions were men and 19% were women.

Regarding regional distribution, the largest volumes of requests come from the most populated departments and cities in the country. Antioquia led the registrations with 21.39% in 2025, followed by Bogotá, which accounted for 19.07% of self-exclusions in 2025. Valle del Cauca, Atlántico, and Santander also show notable figures.

“Self-exclusion has consolidated as a self-care tool increasingly used by Colombians. The rise and consistency in registrations reflect rising awareness about the risks of excessive gambling and the importance of having effective mechanisms to protect the health and well-being of users,” said Coljuegos’ president.

Each of the 14 online gaming operators has a dedicated space within their platforms for bettors to request self-exclusion. This procedure allows blocking bets from profiles created with the requester’s identification number.

“As the regulatory body, we will continue working with operators to strengthen these strategies and to promote safer and more responsible digital entertainment environments,” concluded Coljuegos’ president.
