OpenBet has appointed Sam Depoortere as the company’s new chief product officer.
Depoortere first joined the sports betting supplierin September 2023, initially as vice-president of product.
He was then promoted to senior vice-president of product in January 2025 before taking on the chief product officer position.
Prior to joining OpenBet, Depoortere spent six years at Netherlands Lottery between 2017 and 2023 working in various roles.
The last of which was as managing director for sportsbook and casino for the Toto brand from July 2020 to August 2023.
He previously served as managing director for sportsbook product between April 2019 and May 2020, following a stint as a marketing and sportsbook manager from December 2017 to March 2019.
Depoortere also has experience working for Betway, serving as the operator’s country executive for Belgium from September 2015 to May 2017.
Writing on LinkedIn about his new role, Depoortere said: “Exciting update [as] I’ve stepped into the CPO role.
“Still the same mission, build great products, simplify how we work, make AI central to everything we do. Just with a bigger mandate and more impact. Proud of the team, energised for what’s next.”
Depoortere previously revealed to EGR that OpenBet intended to create a fully dedicated AI team, with the recruitment drive to do so starting in August 2025.
A $450m management buyout of OpenBet was completed in March 2025.
