Ohio Sports Betting Surpasses $900 Million in Handle for October

In October, the total revenue exceeded last year’s $747.7 million by 20.6%, surpassing September’s $863 million by 4.5%. It ranks second only to the $1.11 billion recorded in Ohio’s inaugural month of legal sports betting.

According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, online betting reached $881.7 million, while retail betting amounted to $19.7 million. Players’ winnings totaled $814.7 million collectively from online and retail platforms, with $5.6 million of bets being voided. After deducting $37.7 million in promotional credits, the taxable revenue for October was $81.5 million.

This figure is a 1% increase from last year’s $80.7 million and a significant 67% growth compared to September’s $48.8 million. Ohio set a record with $209 million in January 2023 at the start of legal betting. Online betting contributed $80.3 million in taxable revenue, while retail betting added $1.2 million. The statewide hold rate for October was 9.04%, with online betting at 9.11% and retail at 6.09%. Tax collection details were not disclosed.

**FanDuel Takes the Lead Over DraftKings**

In the individual operator standings, FanDuel, in partnership with Belterra Park, held a solid lead over DraftKings in October. It reported $34.5 million in revenue from $307.2 million wagered, resulting in an 11.2% hold. DraftKings, partnered with Hollywood Toledo, earned $25.7 million from a $297.9 million handle, with an 8.63% hold. Bet365, linked with the Cleveland Guardians, was third, reporting $6.1 million from $72.2 million bets, reflecting an 8.45% hold.

Other key market players include BetMGM with MGM Northfield Park, which secured $3.9 million from $59.5 million, translating to a 6.55% hold. Fanatics partnered with the Columbus Blue Jackets, earning $3 million from $41.7 million, indicating a 7.19% hold. Caesars teamed with Scioto Downs, generating $2.4 million from $29 million for an 8.28% hold, while ESPN Bet and Hollywood Columbus earned $2 million from $28.4 million, showing a 7.04% hold.

Seminole Hard Rock Digital, associated with Hard Rock Cincinnati, was the only operator achieving online revenue above $1.5 million from $17.8 million wagers, resulting in an 8.43% hold.

In terms of retail betting, Hollywood Columbus led with $430,098 earned from a $3 million handle, representing a 14.66% hold. BetJack and Jack Cleveland followed, generating $257,708 from $2.9 million, signifying an 8.99% hold.
