**Tor Skeie’s Insights on Brazil’s Emerging Betting Market**

Tor Skeie, CEO of [OddsMatrix](https://oddsmatrix.com/), shares his strategic insights with SBC News about capitalizing on Brazil’s regulated betting market set to launch on January 1. In this second installment of the series, Skeie delves into the importance of entertainment in betting for Brazilian audiences.

**Localizing for Success**

After years of legislative discussions, Brazil’s igaming and sports betting sector is preparing to welcome a regulated environment by January 2025. Predicted to have a market value of $4 billion by 2029, this is a significant opportunity for the industry.

In collaboration with **ENV Media**, OddsMatrix has conducted a comprehensive survey examining Brazilian sports bettors’ current preferences and future desires in the regulated framework. Over 1,800 sports bettors across Brazil participated, revealing insights across five themes: Entertainment, Localisation, Brand, Coverage, and Features.

**Analyzing ‘Localisation’**

The second study focuses on ‘Localisation’, exploring the preference for local soccer events over international contests and the popularity of niche Brazilian sports among bettors.

**Embracing Local Flair**

Brazilians have a long-standing tradition of passionately supporting their local teams, characterized by vibrant cultural displays. This fervor extends to betting preferences, where “betting local” is a significant trend.

Despite the global surge of sports data and the availability of 170,000 live events monthly from OddsMatrix, a substantial portion of Brazilian bettors favors domestic sports. In fact, 42% of survey participants prefer betting on local events over international ones.

**Football Preferences**

While the English Premier League commands global attention, it doesn’t equate to similar enthusiasm in Brazil. The domestic league, Serie A—featuring renowned clubs like Palmeiras, Corinthians, Flamengo, and Santos—remains a top choice for Brazilian bettors, with 71% frequently betting on these matches. This preference surpasses their interest in the Champions League by 23%, and considerably outpaces the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga, which are favored by 44%.

In addition to Serie A, bettors closely follow other national competitions, such as the Copa do Brasil (73%) and Serie B (44%). The rising awareness of women’s football also reflects in the support for Brasileirão Feminino, with 28% of bettors interested in this league, inspired by icons like Marta.

**Broader Sporting Interests**

Beyond football, Brazilian bettors also embrace a diverse range of local sports, including volleyball, motorsport, and basketball. Interestingly, 59% of respondents express the importance of coverage for these niche sports, and 86% have wagered on secondary sports like beach football, volleyball, and futsal.

These insights underscore the necessity of providing a diverse range of sports content, not just for variety but as a strategic imperative in the Brazilian market.

**The Key to Winning the Brazilian Market**

For operators aiming to capture the Brazilian market, offering localized sports content, supported by multilingual options and native payment systems, is critical.

**OddsMatrix’s Commitment to Localisation**

From extensive coverage of all Serie A to Serie D fixtures and unique offerings for Brasileirão Feminino, OddsMatrix meets players’ needs with a rich mix of localized content.
