Oddschecker has acknowledged an “IT security incident” in which user data has been accessed, including contact details and dates of birth.
In an email sent to oddschecker users, the FairPlay Sports Media-owned brand said it had worked with “a leading team of external IT specialists to swiftly close down the incident and reported it to the relevant authorities”.
The sports betting affiliate confirmed it has now implemented “additional precautionary security measures”, including asking account holders to update their passwords.
Oddschecker said it has not identified evidence of customer details being used in phishing scams, although it has warned users to be aware of potential attacks.
Further details regarding the breach have not been disclosed by the affiliate.
The email sent to consumers stated: “We’re contacting you to let you know we recently identified and contained an IT security incident involving user data which included your contact details and date of birth.”
It concluded: “We thank you in advance for your support. Unfortunately, these types of incidents are increasingly common in today’s digital world and affect organisations in all sectors.
“We will learn from this experience and share any relevant lessons with our partners to ensure we all emerge from this stronger.”
Some users have posted the message on X and tagged the official oddschecker account to check if the email is genuine.
Oddschecker is best known for its odds comparison grid, which compares prices in the UK from 24 bookmakers and two betting exchanges.
FairPlay Sports Media also owns Italy-facing affiliate SuperScommesse, WhoScored, AI sports forecasting platform Quarter4 and affiliate marketplace Confido.
Quarter4 has since rebranded to FairPlay AI and was placed under the FairPlay Technologies umbrella.
In 2021, Bruin Capital bought Oddschecker Global Media, as it was then known, from Flutter in a deal worth up to £155m.
The reported data leak comes after charity Gambling with Lives disclosed it had been impacted by a breach at its third-party CRM supplier, Beacon.
Gambling with Lives said multiple data points, including records of donations, contact details and engagement with the charity could have been downloaded by an unauthorised individual or group.
Beacon has more than 1,500 clients, with a core customer base coming from the charity sector.
A FairPlay Sports Media spokesperson said: “We recently identified, contained, and resolved an IT security incident involving a limited part of our systems.
“This did not disrupt our usual services and we continue to operate as normal. We are liaising closely with our users, partners and the relevant authorities.”
