Sports betting revenue in North Carolina increased by 128% year-on-year during December despite only a small increase in player spending.

Total wagering handle for the month was $665.9 million, the North Carolina State Lottery Commission said. This was only 5.8% above December 2024 and well behind the record $814 million wagered in November 2025.

Of this total, $651.1 million was recorded as paid wagering revenue, while the remaining $14.8 million went through as “promo” wagering revenue.

The commission noted $3 million as cancelled voided wagers, while players received back $581.4 million during the month.

As such, gross wagering revenue for December amounted to $81.5 million. This was more than double the $35.7 million generated in December 2024 but 12.3% short of November. The state’s monthly revenue record total, $105.3 million, was set in April 2024.

North Carolina’s sportsbooks ended December with a statewide hold – based on total wagering handle – of 12.24%. Estimated tax proceeds from sports betting during the month hit $14.7 million.
