The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) issued a warning to casinos about an increase in cybersecurity incidents on March 6, 2026.

The notice was issued by the Board of the Governor’s Technology Office after Wynn Resorts faced a $1.5 million ransom demand from hackers as employee information was stolen. The NGCB noted that cases of phishing and vishing have been observed in important Nevada industries.

Phishing refers to using fake emails, texts, or links to trick someone into revealing financial information and credentials, as the deputy director for the Office of Information Security & Cyber Defense within the Governor’s Technology Office, Adam Miller, explained.

Miller stated:

“In light of this activity, all staff are encouraged to heighten cyber awareness and remain vigilant in daily operations. This is especially important when handling requests involving account access, password resets, wire transfers, changes to payment instructions, sensitive records, or any action that relies on identity verification. Please do not take shortcuts in authentication or verification processes. A request that appears urgent, routine, or familiar may still be fraudulent. Attackers often rely on urgency, impersonation, and human trust to bypass normal controls.”

During the World Game Protection conference in Las Vegas in early March 2026, the FBI’s cybersecurity expert also warned casinos to be careful of such attacks.
