Dugher began his political journey in 2010, representing Labour as an MP for seven years. During this time, he briefly served as Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport in 2015, before being replaced in Jeremy Corbyn’s initial reshuffle of the Labour cabinet in the following year.
In the realm of gambling, he is best known for his tenure as CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council from 2017 to 2024, where he played a pivotal role during the Gambling Act Review.
Hailing from South Yorkshire and an alumnus of the University of Nottingham, Dugher’s life story has a strong connection with Nottingham Forest. I am acutely aware of the club’s significance to the local community, as well as to fans nationwide and globally. I intend to leverage my expertise to help the owners and Board further strengthen the club.”
Forest’s Chairman, Nicholas Randall KC, expressed his enthusiasm about Dugher’s appointment, noting, “We are thrilled to have Michael join our Board. His profound knowledge of public affairs, alongside his local insight and experience, enhances the expertise of our existing Board. He joins us during an exhilarating phase both on the field and beyond, and we look forward to collaborating with him.”
