MERKUR has donated £1,200 through its MERKUR Community programme to support local football club Newham Panthers FC, “Kickstart Futures: Football Meets Mentoring” project, aimed at empowering young people aged 12-18 in East London.
The funding will enable Newham Panthers to offer participants practical stress management strategies that promote mental fitness through sport and outdoor activities. Personal mentoring will support the young people in building resilience, reflecting on their goals and feeling empowered in both their academic and personal lives.
The funding will also support associated costs such as event promotion, venue hire, coaching costs, refreshments and prizes.
Newham Panthers, based in East London, are a community-focused football club, dedicated to empowering young people through sports and holistic development. Its mission is to engage, uplift and equip young people through sport and mentoring.
MERKUR’s donation has meant that to date 35 young people have already participated in a session dedicated to mental and physical wellbeing. This opportunity had a meaningful impact on all participants, especially those preparing for their GCSEs.
Jon Lofulo, head coach & chief executive officer of Newham Panthers, said: “We are incredibly grateful to MERKUR for their support. Their donation has made a real difference to our local community and the young people who are engaged with our programme, enabling us to deliver these essential sessions and continue mentoring young people across East London. With this funding, we have been able to make a real, lasting impact on both the academic and personal growth of the young people we work with.”
This donation is a part of the MERKUR Community programme, launched in January 2024, aimed at assisting non-profit organisations, clubs, and regions where the company operates.
The programme demonstrates MERKUR’s dedication to social responsibility and community involvement, collaborating closely with local organisations to identify areas where they can make a positive impact on the lives of local residents.
Since its launch, the programme, funded by MERKUR and voluntary donations from its customers from venues across the UK, has donated £273,951 to support over 110 community groups and charities nationwide.
Mark Schertle, chief operating officer of MERKUR Casino UK said: “We are really pleased to support Newham Panthers with this funding, enabling young people to develop and grow through sports. This organisation aligns with our values of social responsibility and building communities. Through the MERKUR Community programme, we aim to build established partnerships with organisations that have a real impact.”
