Massachusetts betting handle and revenue slip to yearly low in June

Sports betting revenue and handle in Massachusetts both fell to their lowest totals so far in the 2025 calendar year during June, though the state was able to report improvements over the same month last year.

Revenue for the month topped $62.1 million across online and retail betting. This surpassed June last year by 53.3% but fell 23.1% short of May of this year. Massachusetts has not seen revenue dip this low since $57.5 million was reported in December.

Online sports betting revenue reached $61.6 million and retail wagering revenue $474,426. This is according to data published by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

In terms of spending, sportsbook customers bet a total of $532.7 million in June. This was 4.6% higher year-on-year but 18.8% behind May. It is also the lowest monthly figure since August 2024.

This resulted in a monthly hold of 11.66% for the state.

Can anyone stop DraftKings in Massachusetts?

Breaking down operator performance, DraftKings again led the online market. It posted $31.4 million in revenue off a $266.1 million handle, leaving a hold of 11.80%

FanDuel remained the closest challenger with $17.4 million from $139 million for a 12.52% hold. BetMGM placed third with $5.2 million off $45.8 million, meaning an 11.35% hold.

Next was Fanatics on $4.6 million from $37.8 million, resulting in a hold of 12.17%. ESPN Bet followed with $1.5 million off $15.2 million, with hold at 15.2%, while Caesars took $1.2 million from $17.6 million for an 8.52% hold.

Bally Bet again trailed in the online market with $227,277 off a $4 million handle, leaving a hold of 5.71%

In terms of land-based sportsbooks, Plainridge Park Casino took top spot with $243,665 off a $2.3 million handle for a 10.49% hold. Next was Encore Boston Harbor with $171,393 from $3.9 million for a 4.42% hold. Finally, MGM Springfield took $59,369 from a $1 million handle, leaving a hold of 5.72%.

Casino revenue tops $97.7 million in June

Looking to land-based casino gaming, revenue in June reached $97.7 million. Of this, $68.4 million came from slot machines and $29.3 million table games.

Encore Boston Harbor led the way with $60.2 million in revenue. MGM Springfield placed second with $22.8 million, then Plainridge Park Casino with $14.6 million.

As for tax, the state collected $40.3 million from all monthly gambling activity. This included $12.4 million from sports betting and $27.9 million from land-based casino gaming.

 Online sports betting generated $61.6 million in revenue during the month in Massachusetts.
