The Malta Gaming Authority’s (MGA) chief regulatory officer Rebekah Duca has stepped down from her role with the organisation.

The exec will enter a six-month gardening leave period before taking up another position, bringing an end to her 13-year tenure at the regulator.

She first joined the MGA in August 2011 as a licensee relationship executive, working her way up to the position of authorisations manager in October 2015.

Duca went on to hold the roles of head of compliance between April 2017 and May 2019, and then chief compliance officer from May 2019 to February 2021.

She then took up the chief regulatory officer position in February 2021, which she held for nearly four years.

In addition to her roles at the MGA, Duca also works with the Malta Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

She also served as a member of the ISACA board between July 2013 and June 2018, and president from July 2018 to July 2020.

Writing on LinkedIn about her departure, Duca said: “I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has made this journey so meaningful. Thank you to our chairman Dr Ryan Pace, and the CEOs I’ve had the pleasure of working with for their support.

“A special thank you goes to our previous CEO Carl Brincat whose guidance as a colleague and later on as our CEO left an indelible mark on my career. To the MGA team, thank you for trusting me, inspiring me and allowing me to be part of the MGA’s successes. I am incredibly proud of all that we’ve achieved together.

“As I step into a new chapter and embark on a six-month gardening leave, I look forward to some much-needed time to recharge, reflect and focus on personal passions before taking on new challenges.”

Duca becomes the second senior figure to leave the MGA’s C-suite this year after Brincat left in January to join LeoVegas as director of policy and regulatory affairs in July.
