The Dutch Gambling Regulator (KSA) has urged licensed operators to stop using the “share your bet” feature, as it resembles gambling advertising.
The “share your bet” feature lets a player place a bet and immediately send it to another person through WhatsApp, email, or Facebook via a link, who can then participate in betting as well if they have an account with the same operator.
The regulator announced on February 4, 2026, that operators must stop offering this feature, as it can target vulnerable groups and indirectly promote gambling. Under the Netherlands’ Decree on Recruitment, Advertising, and Addiction Prevention in Gambling, operators have to make sure that ads don’t reach minors, young adults, or people at risk of gambling addiction.
Players themselves decide who to share their bets with, which leaves operators unable to control the expansion of gambling. Additionally, the accessibility of sharing bets normalizes gambling and lowers the threshold for entry.
As a result, the KSA called on all licensed gambling providers to remove the function from their operations and added that it will continue to monitor market developments in order to take enforcement action if necessary.
