The Dutch gambling regulator, Kannspelautoritet (KSA), has ordered Holland Casino Online and Vbet to ban own-goal betting options, stressing the risks connected to match-fixing.
An external report had triggered the regulator to launch a review into the issue, after which it was found that both had options to bet on players scoring an own goal, despite such markets falling outside allowed betting categories because of their classification as negative events.
After the review, it was discovered that Holland Casino and Vbet were the only operators in the Dutch market that were offering the banned category; however, as ordered by the regulator, both removed the category from their platforms and additionally implemented measures to prevent it from happening again.
Own-goal betting is generally banned as it’s more vulnerable to manipulation because of the ease of influencing outcomes compared to other types of match actions.
The KSA stated that no further enforcement action was taken as the operators reacted quickly and removed the violations without any delays.
The KSA wrote in a statement:
“The KSA has addressed both providers regarding this matter.”
The regulatory body cited the December 2025 sports betting integrity guidelines, which introduced the restrictions on this type of bet, as own goals were explicitly prohibited from betting events.
