Nevada records 59th consecutive month of gaming win exceeding $1bn
Analysts were able to paint polarised pictures of Nevada’s gaming revenue haul of $1.345bn in January, depending on what story they were trying to tell.
Visitation was down year-on-year, with GGR also down by 6.6 per cent when compared to January 2025, which was the third-highest earning month in history. January 2026 was also the 12th best revenue month of all time and was the 59th consecutive month in which statewide gaming win exceeded $1bn.
On the Las Vegas Strip, gaming win totalled $747.7m, down 11 per cent year over year. Baccarat drop increased 17.8 per cent to $950.2m, but hold percentage fell to 12.98 per cent compared with 26.66 per cent in January 2025. Table drop increased by 7.1 per cent to $3.3bn, while hold fell to 13.08 per cent from 17.23 per cent a year earlier. Nevada sportsbook win fell by 11.1 per cent from the prior year, while slot-machine win edged up 0.5 per cent.
Control Board Senior Economic Analyst Shelley Newell said: “Nevada has continued to record gaming win amounts in excess of prepandemic levels this month. Statewide total win was 36.7 per cent or $360.9m over January 2019. One contributor is baccarat due to the much larger hold in January 2025 versus the much lower hold in January 2026. Overall volume was up, while the gaming win was down,.”
“Nevada sportsbooks won $64.5m, down 11.1 per cent or $8.1m compared to January 2025 on a hold percentage of 8.11 per cent vs. 9.11 per cent last year,” Newell added. “Sportsbook wagers totaled $795.2m, down 0.2 per cent or $1.8m compared to last January when $797m was wagered statewide. Mobile wagers totaled $562.5m, up 5.4 per cent or $28.6m, and accounted for 70.7 per cent of all wagers.”
Whilst the Strip saw a decline, many localities saw an increase. Mesquite generated a 14.1 per cent increase to $19.8m, reaching the highest in that market’s history. Wendover jumped 14.7 per cent to $25.7m, Elko County increased 12.9 per cent to $36.9m, Sparks surged by 10.5 per cent, and South Lake Tahoe progressed 10.3 per cent to $24.6m.
On the downside, Clark County declined by 8.4 per cent to $1.16bn, Downtown Las Vegas fell 5.2 per cent to $79.4m, the Boulder Strip slipped seven per cent to $81.2m, whilst Laughlin fell by 3.3 per cent to $40.9m.
