William “Wild Bill” Roberts denies that he runs an illegal bookmaking operation, and the FBI has dropped its investigation against the professional gambler. However, prosecutors continue to pursue the case, which Roberts says is a “witch hunt.”
“The FBI said there is no meat on this bone. We don’t see anything in this case at all. They want nothing to do with it,” said Roberts. The charges against him have been dismissed.
“If they had any evidence, they would never have dismissed the case,” he told CasinoBeats.
However, Clark County prosecutor Austin Beaumont told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he intends to take the case to a grand jury.
Wild Bill, meanwhile, told CasinoBeats he is seeking legal advice to explore his options of suing the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), the state, and his son’s mother, Catrina Andrino.
He alleges that the years-long investigation into his operations, which has caused “pain and suffering” and negatively impacted his businesses, was all Andrino’s doing.
Email Tip Sparks Investigation
It all started with an email sent in April 2022 by Andrino, which led the NGCB to launch an investigation. Roberts says that three years earlier, she kidnapped their son, over whom he has primary custody.
He claims the allegations against him were drummed up as a way for Andrino to win their custody battle, which she denies. The parents remain engaged in Family Court proceedings.
“My priority is protecting my child and allowing the court to address custody matters based on evidence presented through the proper process,” Andrino said.
She added, “I am also aware that Mr. Roberts has alleged that I initiated the criminal case in an effort to influence the Family Court proceedings. I strongly dispute that characterization.”
Wild Bill Placed $8M in Wagers, But Denies Being A Bookie
With the help of the FBI, the NGCB uncovered $8 million in bets placed by Roberts at casinos in Nevada. “I know I am a degenerate gambler,” Roberts said. “I mean, that goes without saying.” He added that he does not place huge bets, but “I just wager all the time.”
The gambling regulator claims these wagers were his attempts to hedge the bets that he was accepting through his illegal book. While he admits to gambling, he says he has never taken bets himself.
“I feel like I’ve been violated and robbed,” Roberts says of the NCGB’s actions. He claims the Board has used unscrupulous methods in its investigation, failing to follow protocols during searches of his home and business.
Investigators deployed an undercover agent to pose as a customer for Roberts’ alleged illegal business. The agent met him in Vegas and allegedly placed 23 bets through an offshore sportsbook, based in Costa Rica, between September 2025 and January 2026.
Roberts denied operating the site and said he only uses offshore books to check lines that inform his own betting and tips. He says if the informant wagered on the sites, that is his responsibility and does not make him culpable.
Costa Rica is frequently used as a host for offshore sportsbooks. Earlier this year, Californian Scott Brannon was sentenced to a year’s probation for operating an illegal gambling business in the country. Illegal bookie Matt Bowyer also used Costa Rica to host his sportsbook business that famously accepted bets from Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter.
Brannon and Bowyer’s businesses were well known, but Roberts said there are no credible sources that claim he is an illegal bookie.
“We live in a town of gambling — a world of gambling,” he said. “If I was a bookie, wouldn’t there be 20 to 30 people coming forward? Nope. There is one person, and that person is an informant.”
Roberts Runs Tipping Service and Gym
The 57-year-old runs a betting tipping service, Wild Bill Consulting, which offers users picks for a monthly fee of $250.
“My client is a gambler with a sports information service,” his lawyer Chris Rasmussen said
“Let’s Win Like Champs!” says the company website. “Win Big: Unlock the Secrets to Successful Sports Betting and Transform Your Wagers into Wins.”
Wild Bill predominantly promotes the service on Instagram, where he has over 1,300 followers. It is unclear how many pay to subscribe to the tipping service.
He frequently posts videos reporting on his winning record and sometimes shares free picks. He also posts bet slips showing winning wagers, including a win of over $2,000 on bets in the MLB All-Star Game and the World Cup last month.
His most recent post recommended the Cincinnati Reds against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. The Reds lost the game, 3-1.
In addition to the tipping service, he also runs a gym in Vegas, Ace’s Family Fitness. Roberts says the undercover agent used the gym to get into his life.
Both his tipping business and his gym are fully licensed, but Roberts says they have suffered as a result of the investigation, which continues to disrupt his life.
