The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported 42 sports betting alerts related to five sports in Q3, representing a 54% decline on the 91 alerts recorded in Q2.
The figure also represented a 16% decline on the total number of alerts reported in Q3 2023, with 50.
Football and tennis accounted for 14 alerts each during the quarter, with esports being attached to 12 reports.
Bowls and table tennis both represented one alert each as the IBIA recognised potential suspicious betting in 18 countries.
Burundi was responsible for the most alerts with five, all relating to football, while Europe was home to 14 of the alerts, with the majority coming in Serbia from tennis (three alerts).
The IBIA said there had been six alerts on sports events in Burundi so far this year, the first time that suspicious betting had been reported in the African nation since 2020.
In terms of football, suspicious betting patterns were reported in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia as well as India and Israel.
Bulgaria, Italy and Latvia also all had one football alert each during the reporting period.
Tennis alerts increased 40% against the 10 made in Q2, with the vast majority coming from European nations.
Outside of Europe, the US (two), Mexico (one), Brazil (one) and Iran (one) were also all responsible for tennis alerts.
Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, said: “The third quarter saw football and tennis register the highest number of alerts, albeit those numbers are in line with those seen in recent years and, in the case of tennis, represent a significant decrease compared to its peak.
“It should also be noted that esports alerts fell back to more normal levels in Q3, following an increase during Q1 and Q2 that was primarily the result of a linked case.
“We continue to work closely with the integrity authorities for those sports, and indeed all sports, where we see suspicious betting, with the aim of detecting and sanctioning corrupt activity to protect sporting events and betting markets.”
